His wife is the former Marie A. Leimpeter. They celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary last June. Born in LaBelle, PA, he is the son of the late Frank and Julia Mihalina, Hungarian immigrants. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary. Frank spent his childhood in Cleveland, Ohio. He was a graduate of the Max S. Hayes Trade School. In 1961, at the age of 18, Frank enlisted in the US Navy. He proudly served his country on the USS John Paul Jones as a Gunner’s Mate. He was honorably discharged in 1966. Frank married his sweetheart, Marie, in 1966. They resided in Middlesex County, NJ where Frank worked as a maintenance superintendent and groundskeeper. For 25 years he was a member of the River Road Volunteer Fire Company in Piscataway. In 1990, they relocated to his paradise at Lakeside in Hop Bottom, PA. Frank was employed by the Mountainview School District before his retirement and a member of the American Legion Post 154 of Montrose. Frank was the ultimate practical joker, an avid fisherman and loved being outdoors. During the day, you could find him either tinkering in the garage, riding the lawnmower, or hoping to catch a big one from the shore or on the boat. He would spend many a night down at the bonfire listening to country music. When the sun wasn’t shining, he would be inside watching RFD TV, or Molly B’s Polka Party (with the volume on 100!) Surviving are his wife, Marie Mihalina, daughter Lisa Marie Mihalina (formerly Ferrari) and her sweetheart Brian Yockman and daughter Julie Ann (Mihalina) Lehmann and Charlie Lehmann Jr. Also surviving are his grandchildren, John L. Ferrari and his fiancé Sara Schimmenti, Jaclyn Ferrari, C.j. Lehmann and Frank Lehmann. Frank was a terrific husband, father, brother, uncle and friend but naturally, his title of grandfather was the one that made him the proudest. He loved being around his grandchildren. Whether in the stands at one of Frankie’s baseball games in Cooperstown (and stealing as many foul balls as possible) or simply sitting on the side porch with CJ, shooting the breeze, his visits to NJ were always special. If you were lucky enough to spend a weekend with him at the lake, like Johnny often did, you would get a lesson in casting along the shoreline (and how to lie about the size of the one that got away!) When his favorite granddaughter Jackie wasn’t hiding from one of the “bears” he spotted in the backyard, they were perfecting his famous chicken paprika recipe. He is also survived by his sister Elizabeth Loya, his brother John Mihalina and wife Maryann, and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of christian burial celebrated by Rev. Arbogaste Satoun will be held on Tuesday January 9, at 10 AM in the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Nicholson. Those who wish to attend the mass are asked to go directly to the church. A viewing will be held on Monday, January 8 from 4 - 6 PM with a veterans service at 6PM by the Montrose American Legion Post #154 in the Charles H Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State Street, Nicholson. In memory of Frank, the family requests any donations be made in his name to The Lakeside Cottagers Association, 16070 Dimock to Nicholson Road, Hop Bottom, PA 18824. |
